The Prize Doesn’t Always Go To The Most Deserving

Irena Sendler
1910-2008

A 98 year-old German woman named Irena Sendler recently died. During WWII, Irena worked in the Warsaw Ghetto as a plumbing/sewer specialist. Irena smuggled Jewish children out; infants in the bottom of the tool box she carried and older children in a burlap sack she carried in the back of her truck. She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers wanted nothing to do with the dog, and the barking covered the kids’ and infants’ noises. Irena managed to smuggle out and save 2500 children. She eventually was caught, and the Nazis broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely. Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar buried under a tree in her backyard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived and reunited some of the families. Most had been killed. She helped those children get placement into foster family homes or adopted.

Last year Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize. She was not selected. Al Gore won - for a slide show on Global Warming.

All too much

You know what makes a good person? Psh ... I wouldn't know. I was asking you the question.

You know what makes a patient person? I am beginning to learn.

You know what makes someone REAL? GENUINE? When they have flaws that they're not afraid to show. They're not afraid to confess to and they attempt to not be in denial.

You know what makes someone ORIGINAL? The contradictory - "We all are different. But yet all the same" Emphasis on the SAME part.

But you know what makes a jealous person? I know all too much about that.

And you know what else I know all too much about? People who don't deserve what they get.

Lastly? What makes two people fall in love? When they see each other's flaws, when they see their own, and then with each other .. they learn to fall in love with them.

2 cents.

You are the only one that gives me peace

I've been anticipating amazing SPRING weather. But I guess good things take time ... and so do things you want really bad. For example, I decided I'd wait to buy my DSLR. Not only that, I decided I'd work for it. Firstly, I'd need a job. Today I sent in my resume for Epworth Eastern Hospital. It would be so convenient to work there - it's in working distance from home.

It's ok if I don't get it. Not saying that I won't be disappointed ... I guess I'll have to keep on trying.

(It's holidays by the way, which is good. I'm not hurrying to start any study :P)

yo, chin up.

It's late and I am tired. Wish I could spark a smile. The place is flying high but right now I wanna be low. Don't wanna move an inch ... let alone a million miles and I don't wanna go but I know I gotta go. I just want to feel alive

The times you don't wanna wake up. 'Cause in your sleep it's never over when you give up. The sun is always gonna rise up You need to get up, gotta keep your head up. Look at the people all around you. The way you feel is something everybody goes through. Dark out, but you still gotta lie up. You need to wake up, gotta keep your face up

Seems like the more you grow the more time you spend alone. Before you know it you end up perfectly on your own. The city's shining bright - But you don't see the light. How can you concentrate on things that don't make you feel right

I just want to feel all right

I'm looking for more than a little bit. I'm gonna have to find my way through it. Gonna leave a mark. I'm gonna set a spark. I'm coming above the ground

I won't be looking down
